Five people are dead after a head-on collision between a car and a sport utility vehicle near the Detroit suburb of Southfield early Sunday morning, police said.
The accident, which occurred at around 4:15 a.m. on the Lodge freeway, caused both vehicles involved in the crash to burst into flames, killing four people in the SUV and the driver of the other vehicle.
According to police, the car was heading southbound in a northbound lane of the freeway, which had to be shut down for more than five hours after the accident.
