Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit against Amazon.com Inc

A family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against several companies, including Amazon.com Inc, for the death of a Northeast Ohio high school senior.

Logan Stiner, 18, died of acute caffeine toxicity that led to a cardiac arrhythmia and seizure shortly before he was set to graduate.

The lawsuit, filed by Stiner’s father, alleges that Amazon and six related Arizona-based companies violated Ohio safety laws by manufacturing, distributing or selling powdered caffeine.

The lawsuit also alleges that Hard Rhino, the creator of the caffeine powder Stiner consumed, should have labeled the caffeine power as a stimulant, not as a “dietary supplement,” and that the company also failed to properly warn the consumer of the difficulty in distinguishing between a safe dose and a lethal dose.

The Stiner family lawsuit asks for $25,000 in damages and has started a petition that asks the FDA to ban the powder.
