Colorado City Considers Amending Pit Bull Ban

The city of Aurora, Colorado, is considering amending its pit bull ban to comply with a federal ruling that says service dogs may be of any breed, city officials said.

The city has formed a committee that will examine ways to eliminate or amend the current ban on pit bulls which violates the Americans With Disabilities Act.

One Aurora resident, Allen Grider, a retired Marine who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, has filed suit against the city after his pit-bull mix was taken from him in November 2009.

The committee meets on Thursday to discuss amending the law to allow pit bulls to be used as service animals within city limits.
